No, she wasn't leading a disgruntled group of WWE Divas in a precursor to Aces & Eights (TNA creative can thank me for that idea later).
You’ll almost never hear the names CM Punk or AJ Lee brought up in the WWE these days, but those attending Monday Night RAW this week in Los Angeles -- myself included -- got tons of mentions of both, thanks to megastar Dwayne Johnson.
Johnson then tried calling Punk @CMPunk @STAPLESCenter @The Rock this was awesome experiencing this live before shooting the movie. pic.twitter.com/aikf Gjzc DF — Eric Fox (@Foxinabox007) February 21, 2017 After that, actress Florence Pugh and wrestler/actress Thea Trinidad came to the ring as Paige and AJ, respectively, to film Fighting With My Family, for a rather surreal recreation of what occurred at the RAW on Monday, April 7th, 2014.
As a fan of both WWE and AJ Lee (who now goes by AJ Brooks), hearing her old theme music play was very odd after all this time.
And while the crowd was understandably excited to see The Rock, and amused by Vince Mc Mahon briefly joining him on the entrance ramp to deliver his patented “You’re fired!
”, it was Johnson’s second, post-RAW appearance where things got especially interesting.
With WWE co-producing, RAW was being used this night to double for… Specifically, a recreation of the night Paige made her debut in WWE following her time in NXT, immediately winning the Divas Championship from AJ Lee in the process (before that title was replaced by the current Women’s Championship).
Johnson came out to speak to the crowd before RAW went on the air to explain the filming that would be taking place after the show, his hope people would stick around to populate the crowd for the film, and how they would recreate the AJ/Paige match.
Today, we turn our attention to a particular member of the WWE roster who seems to be on the minds of quite a few Cagesiders: AJ Lee -- smart, funny, cute, and arguably the best actor on the roster. So, of course, the only thing WWE creative could think to do with her was to line up a series of onscreen relationships between her character and Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Kane, John Cena, and now Dolph Ziggler, successively. "Tell me what I really want to know," you're probably saying. Luckily for her, she found a way to simultaneously focus on wrestling and romance when she began dating her trainer, former TNA wrestler and current ROH star Jay Lethal, in 2007.
Oh, and by the way, she's also a solid worker with indie cred. What was WWE's AJ Lee doing in the Impact Zone in 2008, you ask?
