Authorities have released body cam video taken from inside an Arizona cabin where a family of four were found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning on New Year's Day.
Anthony Capitano and his wife Megan, both 32, were found dead alongside their son Lincoln, 4, and daughter Kingsley, 3, at the cabin in Parks, just outside Flagstaff, where they had been staying for the holiday.
Two other sheriff's deputies quickly arrived on the scene to help Gillespie.
According to Fox 31 TV, one of the deputies recognized Bidon as a former deputy with whom he had worked.
The heating unit was the only gas appliance in the home.
The Capitano family had been staying at the cabin, which was owned by a family friend, for a few days. The footage, which shows the former deputy appearing to reach for a handgun that was on his lap as he sat in the driver's seat of a car, appears to support the district attorney's determination that the shooting was justified. On the night of October 29, former Arapahoe County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Bidon parked in front of the exit to the employee parking lot.Police believe the family died of carbon monoxide poisoning after the heating system inside the cabin suffered a massive failure. The Coconino County Sheriff's Office said the family had not been heard from in several days and concerned relatives asked an officer to carry out a welfare check.'It looks lived in, but there's no answer.' The officer could be seen walking around the outside of the cabin, knocking on windows and doors, before he reported the smell of gas coming from the property. The Ponderosa Fire Department subsequently responded to the scene and went inside the home.As Bidon's bullet-riddled body lay lifeless in the car, the deputies notice police paraphernalia, indicating he was a member of law enforcement Bidon reportedly told Gillespie: 'Yeah, I'm here for my orders.'Gillespie then radioed for backup. He told his colleagues that Bidon was 'having a mental episode.'When Gillespie approached the driver's side window, he noticed Bidon had a gun.Body cam footage from the deputy who responded was released on Tuesday.'House is secure from the outside,' the deputy can be heard saying in the video.
